Electrochem construction of community pans for local miners progresses

Electrochem Ghana Limited has scaled up the construction of community pans for salt winning by artisanal miners in communities bordering the company’s concession in the Ada West District.

The Ghanaian-owned company has already constructed some community pans have already for the communities at the west and south of the concession and are being filled with mature brine (saltwater), which will crystalize into top quality salt for the locals to mine.

Public Relations Officer for Electrochem Ghana Limited, Mr. Bernard Korley said, the creation of pans for the community is a topmost priority for the entity.

He further stated that the initiative is the company’s way of ensuring that the livelihood of artisanal miners (Atsiakpor) is not disrupted and also gives them a ready market.

According to him, Electrochem Ghana has also done lots of engineering works and laid hydrants to provide water for the people to work with.

He explained that the wellbeing of the citizenry and the overall development of the Ada states is at the heart of the company, and that is why we have embarked on these projects as part of efforts to help the area transform.

On his part, the DCE for Ada West, Hon Samson Tetteh Quampa, who paid a working visit to some communities where construction of community pans is being built by Electrochem Ghana, said the idea to build and designate community pans to the local miners is a well-thought and that he is well impressed with the work done so far.

He further advised the youth to stay focused in life and do away from any bad things that would affect their life.

Other residents lauded the effort made by the company and called on other residents to support the company for development.

Electrochem Ghana Limited as part of its social responsibility earlier provided toilet facilities to some communities and supported some communities financially to undertake clean-up exercises along the beaches.

Electrochem Ghana Limited (EGL), a salt winning company, under the McDan Group of Companies, has over the hears made various interventions for supply of potable water to over ten communities around the Songor lagoon in the Ada Districts.

Beneficial communities include Nakomkope, Bornikope, Salom, Toflokpo, Sonkope, Ajumanikope, Matsekope, Lolonya.
