The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has disclosed that two of its officers have suffered various degrees of injuries after they were allegedly attacked by angry youth of Ntobroso.
Two excavators were set ablaze in the area by the operation halt team and in the process, a settlement which was used as fuel storage also got torched.
The storage was providing fuel for the excavators used for the illegal mining activities, the Ghana Armed Forces has disclosed.
The GFA said although the house was far from where the excavators were burnt, the fuel spillage from the storage caused the house to burn.
Efforts to contain the fire were thwarted by the residents who attacked the soldiers with stones and other offensive weapons.
The soldiers called in the Fire Service and upon arrival, they were equally assaulted and fire tender destroyed.
Reacting to the issue, the GNFS condemned the attack on their men and the damage done to their fire tender.
