I’m grateful to Ghana & 10 other countries for backing the resolution that Russia vetoed-Ukrainian Prez

February 26, 2022

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Ghana and 10 or her countries for backing a resolution that was vetoed by Russia on Friday, February 25, 2022.

The Ukranian President on a tweet stated that the veto of Russia was a bloodstain on its plaque in the Security Council, the map of Europe and the world.

The resolution condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called on Moscow to withdraw its troops immediately and provide safe access for humanitarian relief work.

Eleven member countries voted in favour of the resolution.

However, China, India and the United Arab Emirates abstained.

Meanwhile, Russia, which has veto power as one of five permanent members of the council, voted against it.

The draft resolution is now expected to be taken up by the 193-member U.N. General Assembly.

UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield speaking on the resolution said Russia, you can veto this resolution, but you cannot veto our voices,”

“You cannot veto the truth. You cannot veto our principles. You cannot veto the Ukrainian people. You cannot veto the U.N. Charter. And you will not veto accountability.”
