Ignore reports that UTAG & govt negotiations has been successful-Prof. Gyampo

March 5, 2022

Secretary of the University of Ghana Chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has asked Ghanaians to ignore the statement issued by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) purporting that the government has resolved the ongoing impasse with the University Teachers.

According to him, after the meeting, UTAG made some suggestions and recommendations and expect that these recommendations most be factored into the agreements reached before they are released.

A statement issued by the FWSC announced that negotiations between the government and UTAG had been successful.

The statement however failed to disclose the outcome of the negotiations but stressed that it was successful.

It further commended UTAG and all other stakeholders for their involvement.

But Prof. Gyampo has disputed claims that the negotiations were successful.

He said “Please disregard this completely. It has no signature; it has no stamp. It is a childish attempt at clashing leadership of UTAG with membership.

Some decisions were taken at the two day meeting. These were to be communicated and explained to members. Following such explanations and communications, members, though unhappy, have made very important suggestions and contributions that ought to be factored and incorporated into the decisions taken before they can be signed and released as agreements reached.

The very important suggestions of our members are yet to be escalated to the NEC of UTAG and to the government’s side. So why this politically childish move to rush to create the impression that all is well? If the intention was to leak this fake release just to test our pulse, then our members have responded. I have monitored their comments. It is not over until it is over.”
