Former President John Dramani Mahama has described the accident that killed some nine students of the University of Education, Winneba.
The former President extended his condolences to the bereaved families and also speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries.
He further advised drivers to drive with caution and help preserve lives on our roads.
He wrote on his Facebook.page saying “What a sad waste of young lives in the Asuboi accident!!
Drivers of intercity coaches and other public transport vehicles must exercise a little more caution with the lives of our citizens entrusted to their care.
My condolences to the families of the dead, and speedy recovery to the injured.”
There was a fatal accident at Asuboi, near Suhum on the Accra-Kumasi Highway (N6), involving a Universe commercial bus and a stationary 40-footer-container loaded with wood over the weekend.
The accident led to the death of nine (9) passengers who were identified as students if UEW.
The Police later deployed officers to the scene to manage traffic with assistance from other agencies including the National Road Safety Commission.
The Police took the opportunity, to thank all emergency crew and the Road Safety Management Service Limited towing crew, for their professional response in extricating, conveying, and recovering the vehicle off the road for further investigation.
It advised drivers to at all times adhere to rules of the road, particularly, always driving on the right, avoid overtaking in curves, on crest, and when vehicles are approaching from the opposite direction to avoid head-on collusion on our Highways.
