The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for New Edubiase Adams Abdul Salam has taken a swipe at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) accusing it of prioritising speeches over policies that will help restore confidence in Ghana’s ailing economy.
The lawmaker believes the government has not shown any competence and the ability to introduce policies to address the concerns raised by citizens.
He said if the President had delivered the State of the Nation Address, the exercise by the Minister would have been needless.
He posited, ”what is happening is not rocket science. We don’t need angels to tell us that Ghana is struggling. We all know why Ghana is facing difficulties. The President must have the ability to resolve the crisis. We no longer need speeches. We need action. Ghanaians want a reduction in the price of petrol. The government can decrease the price. There are nuisance taxes the government can scrap to help reduce the price.”
To him, the Vice President has all the answers to the economic difficulties Ghana is facing, and he must be made to provide the answers to them.
”We no longer need the speeches. We have had enough of the speeches. We have made statements, organised conferences and yet, we have not made any progress especially since this government took over office. The bottom line is that Ghanaians want solutions and not cheap talk,” he stated.
”Talking will not help the cedi appreciate against the dollar. Talking will not reduce fuel prices. I am only expecting that Ghanaians will see solutions and not cheap political talk,” he concluded.
