A Metro Transit bus with registration No. GR 1499- 15 has caught fire and burnt.
The bus which was driven by one Thomas Avevor with 23 passengers on board was travelling from Accra towards Ho.
Upon reaching a section of the road between Asikuma and Tsito at about 3.20pm, the passengers noticed some smoke emitting from the rear of the bus where the engine is located.
The driver quickly parked the bus and opened the engine compartment only to realize thick smoke in the compartment. Some drivers who witnessed the incident informed the Highway patrol team led by Chief Inspector Frimpong Manso and personnel on duty at Kpovie barrier.
The partial team immediately called the fire service and also rushed to the scene and rescued the 23 passengers on board the bus as well as some of their belongings before the fire engulfed the bus.
The passengers escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, the Regional and Municipal fire crews led by station officer 2 Mawuli Kagbame arrived at the scene and doused the bus which was in flames.
The Regional MTTD command has commenced investigations into the incident.
