A 12-year-old boy has been found dead in an abandoned galamsey pit at Denkyira Nkotimso in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
The minor, Abbey, reportedly got drowned in the pit on Saturday, April 2, in the company of his friends who had gone to a nearby river to swim.
Narrating the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Nana Kyereme described the incident as unfortunate.
He indicated that the family especially the parents are devastated over the incident.
He said the pit had been abandoned for long and efforts to have it covered proved futile.
He called on authorities to enforce the law and ensure that miners cover mining pits in communities where they operate to prevent such incidents.
