E-Ticketing for Ghana, Nigeria game generated the highest ticket sales in history because of digitization-Veep

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has described the introduction of the Electronic Ticket (E-Ticket) purchase for football fans for Ghana’s 2022 World Cup qualifying match between Ghana and Nigeria in Kumasi as an unprecedented initiative.

He said the initiative generated unprecedented proceeds following the government’s digitization drive.

The Government, through the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority (NSA), introduced an Electronic Ticket (E-Ticket) purchase for football fans ahead of Ghana’s 2022 World Cup qualifying match between Ghana and Nigeria in Kumasi.

The initiative was taken by the government to allow football fans purchase tickets at their convenience, before the game and to also avoid unforeseen circumstances of overcrowding at the gates on the match day.

A USSD short code (*711#), through which fans can purchase tickets for the game, was made available on all networks.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying first-leg game between Ghana and Nigeria in Kumasi generated the highest amount ever recorded from ticket sales for a national team football game in the country.

This was confirmed by the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi on Rainbow Sports on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm about a week ago.

Reacting to this, Dr. Bawumia said this was the highest amount recorded from ticket sales from any national team football match, ever.

Following this, some other local teams have asked that the E-ticketing be applied to all their games and that is something e intend to implement, he said.
