Ras Mubarak, a former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu has taken the leadership of the Minority to the cleaners for jumping to the defence of Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, lawyer Adwoa Safo.
He says the Minority especially the Chief Whip got no business defending the MP for being absent from sittings beyond the threshold required by law and without permission.
He asked who’s interest are Minority serving adding, and if it was an NDC MPó, the NPP would not have defended the individual like the NDC is doing today.
To him, Muntaka Mubarak and the leadership of the Minority are being selfish and not interested in working in the interest of Ghanaians.
The attacks on the speaker for referring the matter to the Privileges Committee, was spot on, courageous, and commendable.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank the Speaker for the courage and wisdom in referring the matter to the Privileges Committee. The decision he took was in the national interest. Those whose decision is not in the interest of Ghanaians is the Minority and the Chief Whip.
If you are a Minority leader and there is a breach of the constitution over absenteeism and failed to do something and a private citizen has done it, why do you defend it? This is an outrageous decision he has taken. I know there there are some Minority MPs who are not in support of this position.”
“Whose interest are they serving. You are sitting in Parliament and have nothing about it, a private citizen takes the step to do something about it and you say the law has been breached. The argument by the Minority is self-serving.”
He said the speaker did no wrong when he referred the matter to the committee and as an experienced lawmaker, he understands the procedures of the House.
He added the Minority is engaging in a flawed and self-serving argument.
He stressed if this is the argument of The Minority then they have no business being leaders.
