The Bank of Ghana has reminded businesses and the general public that the pricing, advertising, receiving or making payments for goods and services in foreign currency in Ghana, without authorization from the regulator is unlawful.
It has also indicated that engaging in foreign exchange business without a licence issued by the Central Bank was also unlawful.
The BoG in a statement reiterated that the legal tender in Ghana is the Ghana cedi and has asked the general public to report businesses that are violating the laws.
“The Public is hereby notified that the sole legal tender in Ghana is the Ghana Cedi. The Bank of Ghana, in collaboration with the National Security and Law Enforcement Agencies, will clamp down on illegal foreign exchange operations. All offenders shall be dealt with in accordance with the law.’

It assured the public that it will work together with the National Security and other law enforcement agencies to clamp down on businesses violating the laws.
