School Placement: The majority of students have rejected schools they selected-Deputy free SHS Coordinator

April 7, 2022

Deputy Coordinator of the Free Senior High School Secretariat Nana Afrah Sika Mensah, has disclosed that the majority of graduates from the junior high schools who have stormed the Ghana National Association of Teachers’ Hall to resolve their placement issues are those who have rejected the schools they selected.

In an exclusive interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, she said some of the students have rejected the schools they selected and are demanding for schools they did not choose.

She explained that the students are allowed to select six schools. After they select the schools, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) will bring us the list then we place them. However, some of them have refused to go the schools they were placed based on the selections they made”.

Some of them got one out of the choices they selected but they have refused to go to that school. Some also have refused to go to the school within the choices they selected. They are demanding schools they did not select. That is the reason why we are seeing several of them still reporting at the GNAT Hall.

She said this is part of the challenges we are confronted with. But we will do our best to resolve them.

Meanwhile, some of the patients have disclosed their reasons why they have rejected the schools their wards selected.

According to them, some of them selected day schools but the distance of the schools were far from their place of abode.

Others also revealed they preferred boarding schools but have been given day schools.
