The Kwahu West Municipal Health Director Dr. Celestine Asante has disclosed that efforts are underway to distribute free condoms to participants at this year’s ‘Kwahu oo Kwahu’ celebration.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, she explained that the Health Directorate would be working in collaboration with the Ghana AIDS Commission on this initiative
Dr. Asante said ”we will collaborate with the Ghana AIDS Commission in organizing testing and counselling sessions in Kwaku during the festivities. We have also appealed to them to provide condoms for free distribution.”
She noted this is not to promote sexual activities but to promote the use of condoms among participants.
Dr. Asante said although abstaining from sex was good, they are those who are sexually active and would engage in sex.
For this reason, it would be important for them to practice safer sex, she added.
She asked individuals to also consider bringing along their own condoms.
To the women, she asked them not allow the men to deceive them in engaging in unprotected sex but insist on using condoms.
“We are not promoting sex but we are of the view that, people could spread diseases as they make merry and so, we need to encourage them to use condoms.”
Meanwhile, she has cautioned participants not to let their guard down since the Covid-19 was still with us.
She urged individuals to be mindful of the safety protocols and be responsible as they celebrate Easter in Kwahu.
She disclosed that vaccination points would be mounted so persons who have taken the full vaccination would get their boosters whereas those who were yet to take the second shots do so.
Opportunity would also be provided for those who were yet to take their first shot.
