I challenge lying Oppong Nkrumah & Gabby to provide evidence that Mahama promised to cancel CST-NDC MP

May 4, 2022

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak has lambasted the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and a leading member of the NPP Gabby Asare Otchere Darko for claiming that former President John Dramani Mahama promised to repeal the talk tax but increased same after winning power.

Mr. Mahama in his ‘Ghana at the Crossroad’ lecture promised to repeal the Electronic Transaction Levy bill.

His promise has led to several comments from key government officials and members of the NPP.

Mr. Otchere Darko in a tweet noted that “In 2007/2008 John Mahama & NDC vehemently opposed the introduction of ”talk tax” & campaigned to repeal it if elected! They won in ‘08 but kept quiet. When Mahama became President in 2013, he quickly introduced the Communication Service Tax Amendment Act to widen the talk tax net.”

On his part, the Information Minister indicated that before Mr. Mahama became vice president in 2008, he promised that his government will cancel the Communication Service Tax which was introduced by former President John Agyekum Kufour.

But Dr. Apaak has described the two as liars and asked the public to treat their claims with contempt.

He has therefore challenged the two to provide any evidence to support their false claims.

”JM never promised he will abolish CST. Fact is neither the NDC nor its flagbearer at the time, made such a promise.

I challenge KON, Gabby and the NPP to provide evidence; audio, video, print, to show that JM made such a promise. It doesn’t exist.

This falsehood being pushed by KON, Gabby and the NPP will not save them from the anger of Ghanaians. Ghanaians are set to punish the NPP for obvious reasons.

JM will repeal E-Levy, this is a promise. Ghanaians should be rest assured that the E-levy will be gone within the first 100 days of the next NDC administration, with JM as President.”
