The Member of Parliament for Nkoranza South, Emmanuel Kofi Agyekum, has rejected the police report on the murder of Albert Donkor.
He described the report as a calculated attempt to throw the dust into the eyes of the Ghanaian public.
According to the lawmaker, the police statement describing the deceased as a suspected robber is a gross disrespect to the family, and they demand an independent judicial enquiry into the incident.
Albert Akwasi Donkor, who is a footballer and digital television installer, is said to have been picked up from his Nkoranza South home by armed officers at 2:00 am on April 24, 2022, in an unregistered vehicle on an anti-armed robbery operation.
The MP alleged that the footballer was killed four hours after the Police had picked him up from his home.
He revealed the family, have evidence to prove that their son was murdered and that he was not an armed robber as alleged.
He further alleged that the Police were silent on the issue and did not open up about the death of Albert until after three weeks before they were told about the sad news.
He maintained that the statement from the Police was disrespectful because there has not been any investigation into the matter hence ”why were you saying Albert was a suspected armed robber”?
He said the residents of Nkoranza want finality to the issue.
He wondered why the Police used life bullets in managing the crowd.
”Why is the Police using live bullets to control the crowd in 2022? Why do you have to use live bullets to shoot somebody? Where are the Police people who issued the command? Is that how we control crowds in this country? This is a test case for us. We don’t need to keep quiet. We want justice for Albert Donkor,” he said.
