The Ghana National Service has launched its 2022 Fire Safety Week Celebrations.
Public Relations Officer at Ghana National Fire Service, Timothy Osei Affum said the celebration is aimed at raising awareness and educating Ghanaians on the dangers of fires and the best ways to deal with them.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said over the years, fire outbreaks have caused a lot of damage to individuals, corporate institutions and society as a whole resulting in the loss of property running into several millions of Cedis as well as precious human lives.
And for this reason, the GNFS is embarking on a celebration to raise awareness of fire outbreaks.
The celebration for this year is under the theme ”Safer Environment, Key to Investment”.
He said the celebration would allow them to intensify efforts in sensitizing the public on the need to ensure a fire-free society. He also c
He expressed worry about the number of fire occurrences recorded in recent times with reference to markets, industrial, and domestic fires.
He stressed the far-reaching effects of fire outbreaks on our society.
He underscored the need for a collaborative effort of all stakeholders in dealing with fire outbreaks to ensure that the menace is brought to its barest minimum.
He maintained that we have a collective responsibility to minimize fire outbreaks in the country.
As part of the week-long activities, the personnel would undertake education on fire safety, organise a seminar for service providers and inter-district games and undertake an inspection of business premises to ensure that public places comply with fire safety measures.
The inspection exercise has become necessary in the wake of incessant fire outbreaks that have engulfed the country in recent times, he added.
