The Ghana Bar Association has fired back at the Ghana Police Service for disputing the assertion that violent crimes and robber cases were on the increase.
The Police Administration, in a statement, said, “there is no upsurge in crime. The Service is on top of the security situation.”
Public Relations Officer of the GBA, Saviour Kudze speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said the GBA never accused the Police of not being on top of issues.
He said ”we are not security experts. We are lawyers. It is the happenings around us that we are using to say what we are saying. statically, they may be right in saying that there is a reduction in crime but practically, what is around us is what we are talking about. They may be statistically right but practically wrong.
In our release, we did not say you were not on top of issues. We only asked you to intensify what you are doing. It is good they have given the assurance that they will protect Ghanaians. We never meant to denigrate their efforts,” he added.
Meanwhile, he has commended the Police for the ”swift” arrest of some suspects.
He said four persons were arrested but one had to be let go because it was established the person was not linked to the issue.
The GBA issued a statement demanding that the Police intensify its role in protecting Ghanaians following the death of a lawyer who was allegedly killed by suspected robbers.
Lawyer Richard Badombie, was allegedly killed by armed men in the Savannah Region last Saturday.
The lawyer was shot dead when the occupants of a Hyundai Accent saloon car with registration number GN 9890-17 were attacked between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri.
