”The British High Commissioner Madam Harriet Thompson should shut and mind her business. Sher should not meddle in the affairs of the internal security of Ghana,” Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, has roared.
Reacting to the exchanges between the Inspector-General of Police and the Diplomat, she opined that the Commissioner had no business in tweeting her message about the arrest of the #FixTheCountry.
The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, refuted the police service’s response that her tweet about the arrest of the #FixTheCountry movement convener, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, was an act of interference.
Speaking to Accra Based GHOne, the High Commissioner said “If I had thought there was the remotest chance of that, I wouldn’t be tweeting things like that. That is clearly not my intention,” Harriet Thompson said.
Harriet Thompson’s tweet said: “Oliver Barker-Vormawor, convener of #FixTheCountry movement, arrested again, I understand [it’s] for a motoring offence [and he’s currently] on his way to court. I’ll be interested to see where this goes…”
But the Police reacted by asking her to mind her business and not interfere with the internal security issues of Ghana.
Peace Watch Executive in commenting on the issue said, ”the British High Commissioner should shut up. What did she say about the death of Kaaka? Can you do this in the UK”?
She added that the arrest of Oliver was because he did something wrong, and his threat of a coup was not something we have to entertain.
She said, ”although President Akufo-Addo and Vice Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are incompetent, we cannot use a coup to remove them from office. We have to wait until an election year so we can vote them out. In 2024, we should vote against them”.
