The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong has described the projection of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as a presidential candidate and Alan Kyeremanten as Vice president for 2024 as rubbish.
He stated that there is currently a sharp division in the party due to the Alan and Bawumia projection.
He said as a true democrat, interested candidates should be allowed to contest and not prevented.
He said, “if you don’t want anybody to contest, be a dictator…if I contest you, I am not enemy”.
To him, “as someone who has been an MP for 24 years, the gospel truth is that the party must allow anyone interested in contesting to do so.
Any party member who wants to contest should be allowed to contest.
If you don’t resource MPs and you make them unpopular, you cannot take them back to the constituency. The constituency will rebel.
So we should allow every party member who has the interest to contest. You win, you win. You lose you lose. It is the people’s choice. It is not the party’s choice from the head office. It is the grassroots choice to decide that this is what we want”.
He was speaking at an event organized by the party recently.
