A group calling itself the Concerned Parents for Free SHS- Ghana has appealed to senior high school students not to take the law into their own hands though they may have a genuine concern.
A statement issued by the group asked students to use the appropriate means to deal with grievances.
The statement is in response to the disturbances and shooting incident at the Islamic Senior School in Kumasi on Monday.
The group said ”the act of destroying schools and public properties anytime there’s little misunderstanding should be a thing of the past.
Much resources would have to be spent in repairing such properties.
The school authorities and any other bodies that may have a role to play in addressing such concerns should as a matter of urgency deal with it in order not to allow the problem to escalate.”
The statement added ”the law enforcement agencies, specifically the police service should exhibit a sense of professionalism in handling such situations.
The Guidance and Counselling units in the various schools should be proactive by educating students across the country to desist from engaging themselves in any demonstration.”
