The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has told Privileges Committee that he was absent from the House on health grounds.
Appearing before the Committee on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, the lawmaker said his absence from the house was not deliberate.
Mr. Agyapong was referred to the Committee together with two others on grounds that they were absent for more than the stipulated 15 sitting days during the first meeting of the second session of the Eighth Parliament
The committee has been tasked by the Speaker to sit over the matter surrounding the absence of three Members of Parliament, pursuant to Article 97 (1c) of the 1992 Constitution.
Mr. Agyapong in his explanation said he was not well and for that reason, he had to absent himself to seek medical care.
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, referred Adwoa Safo, Kennedy Agyapong and Henry Quartey following a petition filed against them over their absenteeism.
The three are expected to give justifiable reasons for their absenteeism, failure of which actions will be taken to remove them from Parliament.
