Residents of Kpongunor in the Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region on Thursday, June 16, 2022, demonstrated against the installation of prepaid meters and the deployment of armed military personnel to the area as part of the exercise.
The demonstrators chanted war songs and were clad in red armbands and traditional war apparel.
According to them, they are not in support of the new metres.
The ECG is embarking on an exercise to replace all postpaid meters with prepaid meters.
A contingent of 50 military personnel was deployed to the area to provide security to the staff of the company.
Although the ECG staff were yet to get to the Nuaso and Kpongunor areas, the residents have started expressing their displeasure at the installation.
