Ghanaian filmmaker Socrates Safo says he is against the celebration of fathers day because it is not an African value.
To him, the celebration is needless since we do not need special days to celebrate fathers when we can celebrate them all the time.
He said as Africans that believe in the Nuclear Family system, and see our fathers all the time, we don’t need any special day to celebrate them.
”For me, this attitude of picking one day to celebrate fathers and mothers, I don’t subscribe to it. The culture of the white is such that they send their parents to care homes to visit them occasionally. But over here, we stay with them and celebrate them every day,” he told the host of Frontline Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
”I don’t subscribe to this celebration. Let’s celebrate them every day and not one day. What we are doing, we are directing them to a point where people will abandon them,” he said.
He said we must encourage people to always care for their fathers instead of picking a day to celebrate them.
