Builsa South Member of Parliament has slammed the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for using the Covid-19 and Russian-Ukraine war as an excuse to fo the International Monetary Fund for a bailout.
Dr. Clement Apaak says the government have no shame in using these issues as an excuse for their mismanagement and incompetence.
His comments follow comments made by Deputy Majority Leader Afenyo Markin that the previous NDC government went to the IMF due to mismanagement whereas the NPP is seeking a bailout on the premise of a pandemic.
He said these when the Minority taunted the government with IMF while the Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto was answering questions in the House.
“This candid decision by the government through a statement by the Minister of Information, it is as though they don’t know about IMF, you have been to IMF when you were not confronted by an international crisis, you went to IMF because of mismanagement. Why are you now telling us that we are going to IMF? “He said.
“Mr Speaker, when they were in government there were no international crises yet they went to IMF.”
But Dr. Apaak in his response is asking if Togo, Burkina Faso and Nigeria have not gone to the IMF just like Ghana is seeking to do.
He wants to know if these countries live in Jupiter and not suffer the challenges that came with the outbreak of the pandemic.
He has asked the government to show remorse for their incompetence and stop making excuses for their failures.
”Folks, tell NPP apologists to stop the nonsensical talk. Our economy is in ICU because of gross mismanagement.
Is Ghana the only nation affected by COVID? Is Ghana the only nation impacted by the Russian/Ukraine war? How come Togo, Burkina, Nigeria, Ivory Coast have not gone to IMF. Wait, they are in Jupiter, right?
Rather than show remorse and to apologise for the gargantuan mess they have created, which has caused hardship, bound to exacerbate, they still have the impudence to parry blame.”
