The National Coordinator in charge of the Monitoring and Evaluation Secretariat, Madam Gifty Ohene- Konadu, has assured traders at the Kejetia Market that all of them will get a pace after the completion of the Phase II project.
She said no matter what a trader trades in, they will get a space to trade after the completion of phase II.
”Whether you sell ‘koobi’, momoni, you will get a space at the market to trade,” she said while speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
Madam Gifty Ohene-Konadu further expressed satisfaction with the level of working at the market.
She was extremely happy that 98% of the workforce at the construction site are Ghanaians.
She believes after the completion of the project, it will come the largest in the sub-region.
The sod cutting for the commencement of the second phase of the project was done on May 2, 2019, and was expected to be completed in 48 months.
The €248-million facility, when completed is expected to serve as a trading hub to decongest the Central Business District.
But the project was delayed until the KMA announced that the project will start on March 30, 2022.
The overall construction contract was awarded to Contracta Construction UK Limited. The project has been split into three phases to minimize disruption in the Kumasi business district and to ensure the market continues operating at all times.
The market is set to feature 6,500 spaces to lease, 5,400 cold stores, 800 kiosks, 50 restaurants, 210 stalls for fishmongers and butchers and a 40 livestock stalls, a police station, fire station, post office, a hospital among others. Moreover, the project will create 900 direct and 2500 indirect jobs.
The mega project is being constructed by Messrs Contracta Construction Company of the United Kingdom (UK), while the Bank of Germany are the financiers.
British steel was appointed as named as the structural steelwork subcontractor by Contracta, in association with UKEF.
