Your thievery, corruption, & profligacy causing agitations by workers- Arise Ghana

July 6, 2022

Arise Ghana, the movement that recently held a two-day demonstration over the harsh economic conditions in the country has waded into the declaration of strike action by four teacher unions at the pre-tertiary level.

Arise Ghana wants the government to immediately dialogue with the teachers and address their demand for the Coast-of-Living Allowance (COLA), which the teachers have pegged at 20%.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, lead covener Rex Omar said the government, as a matter of urgency, must engage the teachers considering the impact the strike by teachers will have on students, especially those preparing for their BECE and SSCE.

He also admonished the teachers to be reasonable with their demands and try and reach a compromise with the government for the good of the country.

But quickly slammed the government and blamed it for the current economic situation.

He alleged that the thievery, corruption, and cronyism under the current administration has led to the woes we are facing today.

He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the government has not been truthful to Ghanaians, they have peddled lies, painted a perfect picture and made Ghanaians trust them. But they have not shown leadership.

He said despite asking Ghanaians to tighten their belt, the government is engaging in profligate spending and have left Ghanaians to bear the hard conditions they have created.

”President Akufo-Addo told Ghanaians to sacrifice, but he is going about renting private jets at the cost of 20,000 euros per hour. You don’t ask the people to sacrifice, and then you turn around to spend lavishly. You don’t tell Ghanaians things are hard, but you are enjoying and living in luxury.

The leaders we have today are not feeling the pain the Ghanaians are going through because of their profligacy. So if you ask if the call for COLA was justified or the strike was justified, that is my answer,” he added.
