In the face of the food shortage that hit secondary schools, it has also emerged that the government is indebted to the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
This was disclosed by the Deputy Ranking Member on the Education Committee of Parliament Dr. Clement Apaak.
According to him, the government owes the examination body a total of GH 23,011,827.00 for the B.E.C.E and WASSCE written in 2021.
Aside from the indebtedness, funds have not been released to them for the preparation for this year’s B.E.C.E and WASSCE.
The lawmaker is demanding answers as to why this happened.
According to him, the situation is dire and the government must resolve the matter immediately.
“Folks, it has emerged that government owes WAEC a total of GH 23,011,827.00 for WASSCE and BECE examinations conducted in 2021: GH 15,790,072.00 for WASSCE and 7,221,755.00 for BECE.
Sadly funds are yet to be released to WAEC for the preparation of conducting the 2022 WASSCE and BECE. WAEC urgently needs a total of GH 96,694,432.40 to prepare for the upcoming WASSCE and BECE.
The situation is dire. WASSCE and BECE 2022 in jeopardy?”
