Some traders and property owners in the Ga West Municipal Assembly have accused authorities of extortion.
According to them, the tax which was Ghc50 has increased to Ghc250.
The traders claimed the increment is not only outrageous but extortion.
Some of them all alleged that some officials who came to collect the money tell them to pay between Ghc100-150 should they complain that the amount was too high.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the traders noted that the officials negotiated with them over the amount.
They are therefore demanding an explanation from the Assembly.
“What is going on is strange. We are been asked to pay Ghc250 cedis instead of Ghc85. I don’t understand what is happening,” one of the traders said.
Another trader said the officials came to us claiming that the tax has been increased from Ghc50 to Ghc250. This is not the best. They should have informed us before they came to us. There should have been educated on the matter”.
The traders disclosed that when you fail to pay the Ghc250, they will shut down your shop. Several traders have had their shops closed.
