The current President Uhuru Kenyatta has not contributed much to the elections in terms of peace and whatever, Kenyan journalist Philip Nyakundi Gichana has disclosed.
But in terms of a political party, he comes from a tribe that maybe we could say is one of the majority tribes, and he has been trying to ensure that Raila Odinga is elected as President, he added.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5fm, he told host Kwabena Agyapong that the President gave his support to Raila Odinga, an opposition leader, instead of his Deputy President William Ruto.
The journalist also revealed that the current President ”is not seeing eye to eye ” with the Deputy hence his decision of Kenyatta to support the opposition leader.
”So in terms of reaching out to his political nemesis, maybe that could have calmed the nerves going these elections.
Deputy President William Ruto, 55, is running against Raila Odinga, the 77-year-old veteran opposition leader.
Security has been tightened at Kenya’s national tallying centre in the capital Nairobi as vote counting for Tuesday’s general elections started.
