President Akufo-Addo has recounted how his opponents claimed he would never become an elected President.
The President said despite these assertions, he is now the President of the Republic.
He was speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the 22nd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, held in Abetifi in the Eastern Region.
This was the third General Assembly he had attended – the first when he was the opposition leader; the second was in his first term as President.
At the ceremony, the President noted that some doubted his government in implementing the free SHS.
”They said it was impossible for Akufo-Addo to become President. They said a short man couldn’t become President. They said it was impossible to implement free SHS. They said it was impossible to undertake the 1-D-1-F initiative, and they said it was impossible to pay nursing and teacher trainee allowance. But they forget the words of St. Matthew 19:26, which say: ‘and Jesus looked at them and said to them with men it is impossible, but with God, all things are possible,” he added.
He asked Members of the Assembly to continue to pray for Ghana’s peace and unity, so we can continue to move forward as a united nation.
He also asked for the support of every Ghanaian, together with the support and prayers of the Church, to help me and my government carry out its mandate successfully.
