The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has stated that it is not the government’s responsibility to compensate Appiatse residents who were displaced by an explosion earlier this year.
The comments from the Ministry follow a call by former President John Dramani Mahama on the government to compensate the victims.
He said the compensation was long overdue.
But the Ministry says it was not its responsibility to compensate the victims but has remained committed to raising enough funds to “reconstruct the community and support the victims of the incident”.
