The youth of Barekese in the Ashanti region are protesting the removal of the area’s Chief, Nana Amoapem Brenya II.
The dissatisfied youth are alleging that the Chief has not contributed to the development of the community in his three years as a traditional leader.
The state of affairs at Barekese under the leadership of Nana Brenya, as revealed by the angry youth, is a disgrace because the Chief is only concerned with the welfare of his nuclear family.
They further alleged that under the watch of the traditional leader, the community faces challenges such as forcibly taking family lands and a lack of social amenities, among others.
The current Chief has neglected all unfinished projects initiated by the former Chief Nana Akwawie, the aggrieved youth added.
They want someone new to be appointed as the new chief.
A spokesperson for disgruntled youth, Akwasi hene, stated that Nana Amoapem Brenya is not a true reflection of the gods’ and indigenous peoples’ choices.
As a result, he requested that Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 appoint a new Chief for the area.
