The Kumasi Traditional Council has directed the management of Kumasi-based radio station Oyerepa FM to suspend operations on Friday, August 26, 2022, until further notice.
Baffuor Amankwatia VI, the Acting President of the Council who also serves as Bantamahene, gave the other when the management of the station appeared before the Traditional Council to apologise for comments made by Akwasi Addai Odike on their network.
The management had gone to the palace to apologise, but the Traditional Council refused to accept it because the management had not come prepared.
“You gave Odike the platform to say everything he said without hesitation,” Baffuor Amankwatia VI said. If you want us to accept your apology and show remorse, tell your listeners you made a mistake and apologise.
“Again, if you want Manhyia to listen to you, you must shut down your radio station on Friday, August 26, until the pending issue is resolved.” If not, we will not take it lightly the next time you appear before us,” he added.
Odike claimed that some traditional leaders in the region were complicit in illegal mining and thus failed to fight it.
If the galamsey threat persists, the businessman turned politician has threatened to stage a massive protest against Manhyia.
The Kumasi Traditional Council was outraged by this remark, claiming it was a form of rebellion against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
