A New Patriotic Party (NPP), presidential candidate hopeful, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has noted that the elephant family has survived because ot its deep roots as a United Party because it practices democracy.
Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, describing the NPP as a national party, stated that despite disagreements, members respect one another.
The party, he said, has its roots in the United Party and the contributions of individuals such as SG Anto from the Volta Region, Modesto Apalu, Paa Grant from the Nzema side, Obetsebi Lamptey, Kwesi Lamptey, RA Quarshie, Stephen Kraku, and when it comes down to SD Dombo, Kabu, Victor Owusu, Adu Boahen, President Kufour and the rest, you will recognize that NPP is a national party.
”So those who think the party consists of only three blocks, I totally disagree with them. The Danquah-Busia and Dombo were senior figures of the party, and we derive inspiration from, but they are not the tradition.”
”The tradition is UP. United Party. The NPP is a national party. So I want people to understand this point so that when it is time for an election, it is a simple matter. If you are interested in any position, you must tour the country and sell yourself the over 200,000 delegates. We have expanded our electoral college. The delegates will decide who they want to represent them and not what a few would say.”
On the Alan and Bawumia ticket proposed by former Housing Minister lawyer Atta Akyea, he stated, “I don’t agree with him on this position. We have always elected our candidates since 1992. To sell ourselves, we should use good manners, love, and humility. I intend to run for office when the party opens nominations. I’ll pitch my ideas to the delegates. Other candidates should follow suit. You must go and persuade the delegates to invest political authority in you so that you can become the political leader of the NPP and serve the nation with the kind of zeal that will rally our support base and allow us to win a third consecutive election.”
