Presidential candidate hopeful Kwabena Agyei Agyepong claims that the spirit of nationalism that should drive a Ghanaian to sacrifice for the country has died.
According to the politician and former general secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), politicians must lead by example so that Ghanaians understand the importance of sacrificing for the country.
As a result, he pledged to lead the crusade to restore the spirit of nationalism, emphasising that “that convention had to be had.”
Kwamena Agyei Agyepong believes that for good governance to thrive, people must be selfless, patriotic, nationalistic, and committed to the country’s values.
Using engineering as an example, he stated that sometimes you need to recalibrate the machines to deal with the faulty ones, and Ghana currently requires a reset of our thinking, particularly those of us in politics and public service.
He explained that public service is service to the nation, and that public servants and civil servants must understand that their duty is to the country.
His political doctrine is based on three principles: service (where one is expected to serve), sacrifice, and selflessness.
In his view, the centrepiece of politics and governance is the welfare of society where you concentrate especially on the underprivileged.
“In the corridors of power, we want to see more politicians who would speak with the national interest at heart. Party politics is a vehicle to serve the nation but it is not the end in itself.
I am very worried about what is happening in the country these days.”
