Some greedy ones are stealing from our ports, we need to punish them severely- KAA

August 31, 2022

Former New Patriotic Party General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong has claimed that the money recovered from the Labianca saga is a pittance.

He indicates that the country must take bold steps to address waste, leakages, and corruption in order to generate the resources needed to manage the country.

He wants the government to pay special attention to our ports and harbours because we let waste accumulate there.

He stated that we must take drastic measures to address the issues, and that those who allow the waste to exist must be severely punished.

This, he added, will serve as a deterrent to others who want to steal from the state.

He stated that Ghanaians are willing to pay their taxes, but when they arrive at our ports, they are at the mercy of customs officers who engage in a variety of activities to deprive the state of resources.

He advocated for the simplification of our port systems so that Ghanaians could pay their taxes.

His advocacy, according to him, “is set against the backdrop of serious economic challenges. We face challenges, so we must take drastic measures to protect the public purse. Things are difficult, but we must be financially disciplined. We must go to the harbour and ensure that the funds collected are properly accounted for. Consider how much money we lose as a result of waivers. The money retrieved by the OSP from Labianca is a drop in the bucket. Consider how much money we lose at the ports. We must take harsh measures to punish those who steal from our ports.”
