Twenty-nine (29) programmes run at the Kumasi Technical University have their accreditation expired, the Auditor-General’s report has disclosed.
The audit also discovered that 4 of the staff of the school, who were sponsored, at the cost of Ghc1,560,134.73 to pursue their PhDs did not return to the school after their studies.
Management has therefore been asked to retrieve the total amount for the beneficiaries or from their guarantors.
The report asked that legal action be taken against the beneficiaries if the management is unable to retrieve the money.
It was also discovered that one of the university’s staff, Mr. Yaw Mireku of the Civil Engineering Department, discontinued his PhD studies at the KNUST and pursued a PhD outside the country without the permission of management at the cost of Ghc182,920.93.
Furthermore, some officers, of the university, could not account for a total imprest of Ghc444,278,.80.
The report recommended to the management to take steps to retrieve the money or the officers in charge be made to pay their salaries.
