I prefer a gossip with balls to retrieve stolen money to a spinless, conniving poodle who lacks the guts to surcharge- NDC MP jabs

September 4, 2022

Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has slammed Paul Adom Otchere for referring to former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo as a gossip.

The MP believes that, in comparison to Daniel Yaw Domelvo, the current Auditor-General lacks the guts to surcharge people named in the 2021 audit report.

Paul Adom Otchere, the host of Good Evening Ghana, slammed Daniel Yao Domelevo, the former Auditor-General who was forced to retire by President Nana Addo. Thank you, Akufo-Addo.

He claimed Domelevo turned the Auditor-office General’s into a gossip den, where he gossiped with his media friends about some of the work he was doing.

He also opined that because the President did not like the former Auditor-demeanor, General’s he was forced to retire him because his date of birth was forged.

“The other day Domelevo was gossiping and he forged his age and was asked to leave. [Many] people were shouting on social media; they said the Auditor-General that was coming was Akufo-Addo’s person etc. Now, the Auditor-General has brought his report and all of us started checking the courses we did at the University – whether it is accredited. So, they don’t know what to do now because they thought Akufo-Addo meant ill for the nation; Akufo-Addo didn’t mean ill for the nation. He wanted to cut out the gossip.

“An Auditor-General is not a gossip; he is an Auditor-General; he doesn’t stand in the evening with some journalists…[doing we will catch him]. That is not an Auditor-General’s work; he’s a gossip. So, Akufo-Addo kicked him out because the man forged his age…When you go [to the Auditor-General’s office] they are standing at the car park [around] 5.00 pm till 8.00 pm sometimes; gossip ‘soorrr’.

“And the gossip finds expression in an Auditor-General’s report; how can you behave like that? Domelevo shame on you! Have you seen what the Auditor-General is doing? You couldn’t even tell us that the courses we did at the universities were not accredited; you couldn’t show us that some people were paid monies – ghost names – you were just gossiping, what’s wrong with you? Are you fine where you are? We pray for you that you will be fine,” Paul Adom-Otchere said

In response, Dr. Apaak stated that he would prefer an Auditor-General with the guts to surcharge those named in the report over someone who is spineless and colludes with the government to let those named off the hook.

“I prefer a “gossip” with the balls and boldness to apply powers of his office to retrieve stolen public funds to a spineless and conniving “poodle” who refuses to use the same powers to recover pillaged public funds in the public interest.”

He claims that the Auditor-General has shown no interest in recovering several sums of money misappropriated by individuals.

He said in 2020, Public Boards, Corporations, and Other Statutory Institutions alone could not account for more than 12.8 billion, but to date, the Auditor-General has shown no interest in recovering the funds.

The lawmaker stated that since taking over from Yaw Daniel Domelevo, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu has yet to use these powers to recover/retrieve a pesewa.

“AG Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu is strangely not interested in recovering/retrieving our funds unaccounted for using the power to disallow and surcharge like his predecessor Yaw Daniel Domelevo. Domelevo used these powers as affirmed by the Supreme Court judgement in the OccupyGhana case to recover 66M before he was hounded out.

Since Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu took over from Yaw Daniel Domelevo, he is yet to use these powers to recover/retrieve a pesewa. His bizarre attitude is helping to embolden the pillaging of the public purse (jump from 12.8B in 2020 to 17.4B in 2021), rather than protecting it. Imagine recovering half of 30B in these challenging times?

AG Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu by refusing to apply the powers to disallow and surcharge has no business holding himself as AG and getting paid by the taxes of the same people he is not serving fully. He should get the job done or resign.”
