The Mankrado of Yaw Obeng, a community in the Upper West Akim District of the Eastern Region, has expressed outrage at the delay in the construction of a hospital under agenda 111.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Prince Collings Bening, Mankrado Nana Ayesu Agyare expressed his outrage that the project has stalled.
According to him, the preparatory work done on the land poses a risk to the local residents.
He stated that they were fortunate that the rains did not fall this season, as flooding would have occurred in the area.
He stated that several appeals to authorities had resulted in no positive outcomes and that they would soon petition the president on the matter.
He also clarified that the traditional leaders have not threatened to seize their land bank, but that the fading sone on the land could cause serious harm to the residents of the area.
If it had rained heavily, the situation he described could have served as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Meanwhile, he has advised the government to expedite the project or the chiefs will advise themselves on how to use the project’s allocated land.
“If it hadn’t been for this constituency, the NPP would have been in opposition,” he said. We overwhelmingly supported them, and we deserve our fair share of the national pie. If the hospital is finished, the residents will be grateful and see it as an act of appreciation.”
He revealed that several farms had been destroyed to make way for the hospital, and those affected had not even been compensated for their losses.
He noted that, as custodians of the land, they retain an interest in it, despite the fact that it is government land.
