Upper West Akim: We’ve not abandoned Agenda 111 Hospital Project- DCE

September 6, 2022

Eugene Sackey, Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Upper West Akim District, has assured chiefs and residents in the district that the Agenda 111 hospital project will be realized.

He admitted that the chiefs in the area had allocated them more than 17 hectares for the hospital project, but the Ministry had specified that we needed half a plot, which we couldn’t find in Adeiso.

We were fortunate to find one in Obeng Yaw, but there was a slope in the land that required the contractor to work on, and we needed about Ghc2 million to do so.

However, the district lacks the necessary resources, so we wrote to the Chief of Staff and requested assistance. The Chief of Staff informed us that there was a contingency on the project and that they would notify the contractor. The contract was signed, and the contractor began work, and they are now at the point where they need to blast a rock on the land.

The DCE also revealed that Dr. Nsiah Asare, who is in charge of the projects, told him that due to land issues, they have decided to build all of the Greater Accra region agenda 111 hospitals in a storey form, with the one in our district being considered.

“As of the last time I spoke with him, he had an assurance that the drawings on the project would be ready soon, and then the project would begin,” he said.

He was reacting to concerns raised by chiefs in the area over what they described as a delay on the project.

The chiefs were worried that nearly two years that the project started, it had stalled.

But the DCE says the project would be realized and not abandoned.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline, he said he proposed a new location for the project because of the work that needed to be done on the land, but Dr. Nsiah Asare said no because our hospital was part of the storey facilities for the Greater Accra region.

“We have not given up on the project. We are waiting for the drawings so that we can give them to the contractor so that they can begin work. The necessary documentation and consultation with chiefs and other stakeholders have been completed.”
