The Twifo Mampong-Eduabeng cattle farmers’ association is pleading with the Ghana Police Service to provide immediate security in the Twifo Atti-morkwa district of the central region.
According to the association’s chairman, Mr Djibre Labinde, about 12 cattle belonging to some of the association’s members were stolen in a week.
Mr. Djibre Labinde lamented that the cattle rearing business was their only source of income to support their families, but the rate at which stealing is outpacing in the area is collapsing the cattle rearing business.
He urged groups, organizations, and individuals, particularly chop bar operators, to conduct thorough investigations into anyone who may sell cows to them before purchasing.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Djibre Labinde urged the police officers stationed along the various roads to be vigilant and diligent in order to apprehend thieves who smuggle stolen livestock to distant destinations for sale.
