Ghana will soon import water if we don’t end galamsey-Odike

September 18, 2022

The Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai ‘Odike,’ has warned that Ghana will soon start importing water if we don’t deal with galamsey.

He asserted that greed, selfishness and lack of leadership on the part of our national leaders, chiefs and other stakeholders are creating problems for the country.

He said the issue of galamsey has worsened since President Akufo-Addo took over.

He alleged that more than 8,000 waters have been destroyed since the president took over.

He charged the youth to rise above their political, social, and economic status and fight illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

Ghana’s youth must step up to the plate and defend the country. We had only a few water bodies destroyed before Nana Akufo-Addo took office. However, over 8,000 bodies of water have been destroyed since he took over.

He also challenged the media to step up the fight against galamsey because it is their responsibility to hold our leaders accountable.

He also claimed that the president was neck deep in galamsey, making the fight against it difficult.

According to the politician-cum-businessman, today’s youth have a responsibility to protect and preserve the future for the next generation.

Mr Odike stated that the leaders have failed the galamsey fight because they are a part of the grand scheme.

According to Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, some leaders are finding ways to intimidate people who speak the truth to power.

For him, no leader whether traditional or political can intimidate him or stop him from speaking the truth to power.

Ghana’s youth must band together to combat galamsey. They are depleting our water supplies and denying us access to safe drinking water. Galamsey includes our soldiers, who are also supposed to protect us from external aggression. How can our soldiers protect us from external aggression if they are supporting Galamsey?”
