Data from the National Identification Authority (NIA) has disclosed that China has the highest number of foreigners issued non-citizen national identity cards (Ghana cards).
Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the NIA, disclosed this at a press conference to mark this year’s International Identity Day last Friday.
China has the highest number of citizens with non-citizen Ghana cards with 34,712 cards issued to them, 22 per cent of the 161,007 citizens from 202 foreign countries.
Nigerians constituted the second-largest citizens with non-citizen Ghana cards with a total of 25,873 cards, while 20,110 bearers were citizens of India.
Germans received 4,329 cards; Lebanon 4,324 cards, the United Kingdom (UK) received 4,133 cards ; South Africa received 3,194 cards, Cote D’lvoire received 2,222 cards, and Gabon received 1,958 cards.
Prof Attafuah provided an update on the number of cards issued in the country so far, stating that as of September 15, 2022, a total of 17,163,081 people had been enrolled on the NIA system, with 16,627,326 cards printed and 15,869,026 cards issued.
