The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has posited that it does not lie in the mouth of President Akufo-Addo to say that he would hand over power to another candidate from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Responding to a question at a press conference organized by the NDC Council of Elders, he stated that Ghanaians would decide who would take over after the 2024 elections.
National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who spoke on behalf of the Council, asserted that several surveys have proven that over 80% of Ghanaians are disappointed in the NPP and want the NDC back.
”It doesn’t lie in the mouth of Akufo-Addo to determine who to hand over power to. That sovereignty resides in Ghanaians, and Ghanaians would be called upon in 2024 to go and exercise their franchise, and if there is anything to go by, recent surveys by all the reputable institutions tell us that over 80% of Ghanaians feel that this country is moving in the wrong direction.”
He described the continuous breaking of the 8-year-jinx mantra by the President as ”empty rhetoric”.
”We want to state emphatically that when they realise they are losing the elections, they will start packing bags and baggage before the final declaration by the EC. We are not interested in going to fight him because we believe that the NDC is preparing itself to win a very convincing election in 2024.”
He stated that the NDC will no longer go to the Supreme Court, which is why they are strengthening the party and preparing it for battle.
He stressed the time would come, and when Ghanaians speak, Nana Akufo-Addo would have no option but to hand over power to a new NDC government to take over.
