The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has served notice it will not allow the Electoral Commission (EC) to rig the 2024 general elections in favour of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
The party, led by its National Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has asked the EC to rescind its decision to present a C.I to parliament that seeks to use the Ghana card as the sole form of identification for new voter registration.
He stated that his party is demanding the highest standards in the run-up to the 2024 general elections.
”Since the C. I have not been formally laid before parliament, we take this opportunity to call upon the EC to abandon the idea all together”.
He served notice that the NDC will use every lawful means to resist this latest effort to undermine the right of Ghanaians to vote and in the process skew the electoral system in favour of the NPP.”
The NDC, he added, will mobile the broad masses of Ghanaians to wage and sustain an unrelenting campaign to prevent any attempt by the EC to strip a large section of the population of their right to vote.
Mr. Ampofo noted that the Ghana card is a new feature of our national life and can not immediately become the sole card for the registration of new voters.
To him, it place into the hands of the NPP, whose members constitute the leadership of botrh the National Identification Authority (NIA) and the EC.
