Contesting Ofosu Ampofo will not cause any problem- Nketiah

September 23, 2022

The incumbent General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nkekiah, has stated that challenging Chairman Ofosu Ampofo will not cause any problems.

He stated that those making such claims have no basis or proof to back up their claims.

The party’s longest-serving chief scribe stated that he is willing to be used for any position within the party, and that competing with Samuel Ofosu Ampofo for the position of national chairman will not be a problem.

Mr. Nketiah has stated that he will not run for the position of general secretary again.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah revealed in a radio interview on Accra-based Radio Gold on Wednesday (September 21, 2022) that he is ready for the party to use him for any other position when he steps down as General Secretary.

When asked if he planned to run for national chairman, he stated that it was too soon to comment or declare his intentions.

He stated that when the opportunity arises and the timing is right, he will make the public aware of it.

In response to a question about whether it would be difficult for him or anyone else to challenge the current national chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who is expected to run for re-election, Mr Asiedu Nketia said he disagrees.

He stated that the NDC’s history does not support that position.

It’s the other way around, which could be problematic if the party decides to bar people with interests from competing.
