According to criminologist Edgar Tachie Akunnor, recent murder cases across the country are a call for the country to deal once and for all with advertisements of quick money on public television.
He explained that several television channels are physically promoting and that it is easier to make money this way.
He lamented that it is impossible to make money in the shortest amount of time; however, we are seeing these gruesome murders and ritual killings all because people want to be rich in the shortest amount of time.
According to criminology, it is too late to address the issue because it is causing harm to people, particularly young people.
He said on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that some young people want money at all costs, so they engage in a variety of activities, including ritual killings. As a country, we have a responsibility to address these issues. We must be cautious not to let these things destroy our society. The number of people killed for ritual killings is far too high.”
He also emphasised the importance of the country implementing policies that can help transform the lives of the poor and underprivileged in society.
According to Edgar Tachie Akunnor, some people are obsessed with other people’s wealth and don’t question the source of their wealth, but are only interested in making money without any form of struggle.
He emphasised the importance of the country engaging in dialogue and finding solutions to these unfortunate incidents.
The lecturer further encouraged the Police to prosecute the persons caught in such acts so it would serve as a deterrent to others who want to do the same.
He also suggested for authorities partner with Google and other social media platforms to censorship the promotion of money rituals on the internet and social media.
