The Ghanaian government, in collaboration with the Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA), has provided farm equipment to rice farmers in the Assin North District of the Central Region in order to increase rice production.
The farmers were given reaper binder combined harvesters, rice threshers, power tillers and accessories, rice winnowers, and water pumps to help with irrigation on their farms.
Charles Ohene Andoh, District Chief Executive Officer of the Assin North District, said at the function at Assin Breku that the project was currently benefiting five districts in the Central Region, namely Gomoa East, Assin Fosu, Assin North, Assin South, and Twifo Att-Mokwa.
According to him, the equipment and machinery are expected to alleviate the laborious work involved in rice farming for farmers in the five beneficiary districts, as the gesture demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving the rice value chain in the area.
Meanwhile, the farmers who benefited from the gesture expressed their gratitude saying that they would now transition from hand-planting and harvesting to a mechanised form of farming with machinery and equipment.
