Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrew aka Osofo Kyiri Abosom, founder of the Ghana Union Movement party, claims President Akufo-Addo delayed firing lawyer Sarah Adwoa Safo because of her father.
According to the man of God-cum politician, Safo Kantanka sponsored President Akufo-Addo’s campaign, making it difficult to sack his daughter even when the odds were stacked against her.
He made the remarks in an interview with Dr. Ren on Rainbow Radio 92.4Fm, UK.
He disclosed that the respected man of God revealed to him that he [Kantanka] sponsored Akufo-Addo’s campaign and ”so I think that was what made it difficult for him[Nana Addo] to sack Adwoa Safo”.
He told the host that Mr. Kantanka told him about sponsoring the president’s campaign when he paid him a courtesy call during his 2020 political campaign.
“He told me he gave the President a lot of money for his campaign and the campaigns of other politicians, but when they get power, they pretend they don’t like him.” I explained to him that I had come to him for prayers and that I was not like any other politician.”
Sarah Adwoa Safo, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, was fired by President Akufo-Addo in July 2022.
This was stated in a press release issued by the Presidency on Thursday, July 28, and was signed by the Communications Director, Eugene Arhin.
President Akufo-Addo acted in accordance with Article 81(a) of the 1992 Constitution, according to the statement.
“In accordance with Article 81(a) of the Constitution, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has revoked the appointment of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome- Kwabenya, as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, with immediate effect’” a portion of the statement read.
