President Akufo-Addo will today (Wednesday, October, 5, 2022) be meeting the National House of Chiefs and MMDCEs on the Galamsey Menace.
The venue for this meeting is at the Manhyia Palace at 10 am.
The meeting is coming at a time when several civil society groups, individuals, experts have expressed concerns over the galamsry menace.
OccupyGhana, a pressure group has written to the president urging him to declare a state of emergency on the issue of galamsey in the affected areas.
The group further advised that Parliament needed to be recalled from its recess do it would help the government to outline the circumstances leading to the declaration of the state of emergency.
“Considering the gravity of the situation, we fully expect Parliament to agree with the government and provide that the state of emergency should remain for such period as Parliament may determine so that the government can get a grasp of the situation.”
